Regional Rangatahi Adolescent Inpatient Service (RRAIS)

Who our service is for

The Regional Rangatahi Adolescent Inpatient Service (RRAIS) is the acute adolescent inpatient unit for the central region. The service is for youth aged 12 to 17 who are experiencing acute mental health problems. We provide a bicultural service based on Kaupapa Māori frameworks and mainstream clinical models.

How to access our service

Referrals are accepted from local child and adolescent mental health service (CAMHS) or a child and adolescent psychiatrist.

What you can expect if you use our service

  • An assessment and treatment led by a consultant child and adolescent psychiatrist. Daily care and input from a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Cultural assessments where indicated.
  • Whānau centered care and treatment with a focus on recovery and supporting youth when they leave the unit.

Visiting hours

Visiting hours are week days from 4pm to 8pm and weekends from 10am to 5pm.

There is provision for whānau overnight accommodation for visitors outside of the Wellington region.
